Old dogs, like old shoes, are comfortable. They might be a bit out of shape and a little worn around the edges, but they fit well. ~Bonnie Wilcox
Our grand dog, Mercedes, is 16 years old today; and considering the average lifespan for a Weimaraner is 10-12 years, I’d say she’s just a tad older than old!
Mercedes was born in Georgia (I believe), has traveled to Japan and back, had moved to El Paso, TX, Washington D.C., several different cities in Virginia, and is now living permanently in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas.
She belongs to our eldest son, Brian, and his wife, Lisa. They first got Mercedes as a little puppy about a year after they married. Because Brian was in the military, they moved around quite a bit; so Mercedes has experienced a bit more than most dogs. About 5 years ago, she got a sister, Isabella (Bella for short), who’s a Hungarian Vizsla.
Without a doubt, we are certain that Bella has managed to keep Mercedes active in more ways than one.
Our grandkids were much younger when they lived in Virginia and I really think they helped to keep Mercedes active, too. In the photo above, Sophia, our granddaughter, decided to cover Mercedes up to keep her warm.
And next thing I knew, Sophia decided to wrap Bella in the comforter. This has always been one of my favorite photos of Bella. Poor dog didn’t know what to do!
But more than anything, Mercedes loves to eat anything that is edible. While I was in Texas this past fall, wherever there was food, there was Mercedes. Most of the time they had to keep their wastebasket on top of the counter to keep her from getting into it, even with the lid on it.
Mercedes gained another sister this past summer, Brooklyn (German Shorthaired Pointer). Now she’s got two active dogs to keep her going.
As she’s gotten older, her fatty tumors have grown larger and larger and her nickname has become Lumpy Bumpy. The Vet said it was better to keep them than to have her go through surgery. This is one of her most recent photos with our grandson. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MERCEDES! I hope you get a great meal for your special day.
