I want to have a good body, but not as much as I want dessert.
Do you remember when you were a kid and loved to lick the frosting from the bowl? And for any of you who lived in the midwest, there’s was Sanders Bakery, which made delicious cakes, but it was their frosting that was awesome. They were unlike any other frosting and all you wanted to do was eat more cake for more of their frosting.
I’ve been wanting to share this frosting recipe with you for sometime right now. It’s one that has been in our family since I was little, and it’s just like the frosting I mentioned in my first paragraph. I know you’ll love it!
There’s only five ingredients and you use granulated sugar instead of powdered sugar.
- 1 cup shortening, like Crisco
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Add 1 cup shortening and 1 stick of softened butter and beat together with a mixer. Gradually add the granulated sugar and beat until it’s well blended.
- Gradually pour in the evaporated milk and the vanilla.
- Continue to beat for approximately 10 minutes or until ALL the sugar is dissolved.
As you beat everything together, there will be some separation in the beginning, but don’t worry and just keep beating.
This is where a stand mixer really comes in handy because you’ll continue to beat the frosting until all the sugar dissolves and its smooth and creamy, just like whipped cream.
Don’t you just want to reach your finger into this photo and lick this frosting? I actually made a batch of this when I was little, just to eat the frosting with my cousins who were over at the time. That’s all we ate, frosting without cake, and it was so good!
