The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month.

I’ve got something really special for all of your today. I’ve joined up with Hometalk’s DIY My Spring Blog Hop. If you’re not familiar with Hometalk, you can see more of it by clicking on this link here. Then use the hashtag #DIYMySpring to view more ideas on Hometalk for getting your house ready for spring. Now, if you’ve been following me for awhile, then you know we live in Michigan. We seriously had snow the other day; but the good news is that it’s suppose to start warming up this week. So I decided to “THINK SPRING”, because we really can’t live it as yet.
I just put together our spring mantel with everything I love about spring. I even painted the sign, which I will share more details about in tomorrows posting.
Did you notice the moss-covered bunny on the mantel?
This is what he started as! I was in Joann Fabric’s the other day and I got this paper mache bunny for less than $1.50! That’s when I got the idea to cover him in green moss.
You want to look for moss that isn’t too thick. I started with the ears, and using my glue gun on a low setting, I started gluing the moss to the bunny in small patches.
As you glue, make sure to press the moss tightly to your bunny so you keep the shape and don’t let him look like some kind of a bloated bunny.
This area was a bit tricky, but with gluing here, there and everywhere, we got it all on.
This is just the back of him as I kept piecing the moss in and gluing.
When I finally finished, I went back with more green moss and covered any areas that showed the glue. Then I took my needle-nose pliers and carefully removed as much of the stringy dried hot glue as I could.
I tied an aqua ribbon with white polka-dots on him after I was finished.
That same day, I went from Joann’s to a local garden store. I was actually looking for something else when I saw their collection of faux grass. I’ve been wanting faux grass for awhile, but most that I’ve seen looked so fake so I haven’t bought any. I couldn’t pass it up, but I couldn’t stand the little black plastic pot it was in.
I have so much burlap at our house, so I cut a small piece to wrap around it.
I just started by laying the pot on it’s side and rolled it.
I put a dab of hot glue on the bottom back to help hold it in place, as well as gluing the back ends together.
I had this ribbon laying around and I also put a dab of hot glue on the back of it, to help hold it in place.
No more cheap-looking plastic pot! Isn’t this cute with the ribbon and the burlap…I love it!
I also made a center piece for our dining table, even though we won’t be home for Easter this year.
I took Spanish moss, twigs, and the leftover green moss I had and made a birds nest. Yes, that’s one big bird! I couldn’t get my hands on smaller eggs, so I put just the one in it. Oh look, the bird left a feather!
Just another sign of spring in our dining room.
I put our yellow throw pillows on the sofa and added colorful eggs into my glass lantern. Miss Molly is quite content, obviously!
