“Decorating golden rule: Live with what you love.”
Can I hear a HOORAY! That’s what I said and did after everything was finished. Even though it really was easy, it’s still a lot of work; especially for two older people to be doing this. I told Mr. Cottage if I were just 10 years younger, it would have been a real breeze. In case you missed Part 1, you can see and read the tutorial on doing board and batten right here.
I just love the way it looks in our bedroom and how it just brightens up the room. It’s hard to see from this photo, but using a 1 x 2 furring strip, we added a small ledge above the wall behind the bed.
We have a short walkway to go through to get into the main bedroom and I love how you can see the board and batten now from the hallway. FYI, now we can finish decorating our bedroom…can I hear another HOORAY!
And this is the hallway that I was told was too small for board and batten. I don’t thing so!
I have a couple of photos to show you what Mr. Cottage did at the bottom of each batten. He cut them at a 45 degree angle so they wouldn’t overhang above our baseboards.
To keep this project simple and easy, we left our baseboards as is; but I know some people replace their baseboards to match up with their batten.
OK, I hate to admit it, but I had one major OOPS with this project! Can you see what it is by looking at the photo above or below?
Even though I knew the mirror was there and I knew where the board and batten was going, I suddenly realized the mirror wasn’t going to look right in this location. Even if we brought the hooks out further, it still covers up more of the board and batten. So you know what that means…shopping for a new mirror!
Here’s a couple of BEFORE and AFTER photos of our bedroom…
And a couple BEFORE and AFTER of our entryway. What do you think of it? It’s amazing how many people really didn’t know what board and batten was until we told them. It really adds a lot of architectural details to both of these areas.
