Have you ever made small changes that had a big impact? I don’t know why I never thought of this idea before, but I’m glad I eventually did. Back when we bought our condo, I soon realized we didn’t have a linen closet on the main floor, only one on the lower walkout level. I bought this glass front cupboard to use in the bathroom to store towels, which I bought for less than $90 at a fantastic estate sale. You can read about it here.

For these past five years, I’ve been keeping our extra set of sheets in the downstairs closet because I didn’t have room in this little cupboard. Then one day I decided enough was enough and I was going to make room to store our sheets in here.
I took this photo after removing everything from the upper shelf. I realized I was wasting too much space with all these knick knacks and other things that could be stored elsewhere.
Some of the items on that shelf included:
- A cellophane package of soap slivers – which I stored away in a vanity drawer
- Birkenstock Cork Life – stored in vanity drawer
- Dead Sea Salts in a dirty apothecary jar – cleaned the jar and put on another shelf
- My mother’s Shalimar cologne – I couldn’t part with her favorite cologne, so I put it away in a drawer for safe keeping.
- Red Door cologne – Too strong and I never wore it, so I threw it away.
I rearranged the shelves to better accommodate the sheets.
Just subtle little changes to make it function better and look better than it was.
I kept one shelf for my shells and jars.
I moved one of the jar of shells to the very top of the cabinet.
While I was cleaning the cupboard, which took very little time, I decided to clean the vanity drawers. When cleaning drawers and cabinets, don’t forget the sliders (shown above), as well as the top edge of the actual drawer and cabinets.

This took very little time and didn’t cost anything. For the record, I have most all my makeup in the red bag because I’m constantly packing and unpacking when we go to the cottage. This makes it so much easier and quicker for packing to just grab this bag.
