So the question is, to decorate or not for Valentine’s Day? Once the kids grew up and left the house, I fell away from doing much for Valentine’s Day. But for the past few years, I’ve started up again. I don’t know about you, but here in Michigan it can be dull, cold and dreary in winter and anything to bring a bit of color and sunshine is more than welcomed. I’ve got a few inexpensive and colorful ideas for you to add a bit of love to you life.
“A simple ‘I love you’ means more than money.” ~Frank Sinatra
Mr. Cottage and I have lived on a fixed income for quite a few years, so it should come as no surprise that I’m always looking for inexpensive ways to shop and come up with ideas on decorating our house.
Fortunately, I know how to paint, so I recently painted this Love Always Wins heart. I’ve got it displayed on our entry shelf, along with my white pears.
I know some of you paint with watercolor and other mediums, so I thought I would share with you something I just purchased and decided to try. It’s a Molotow masking pen. I wrote these words by hand and then went over it with this pen.
I read pros and cons about it, so I wasn’t sure how well it would work. After the masking fluid dried, I used a special eraser to lift it off the paper.
Unfortunately, some of the paint got through the masking. I took a small wet brush and dabbed over the unwanted paint.
This is the result of my final painting, which I’ve added to my free printables. All my email subscribers have access to the Member’s Library at the top of my home page. If you’re not a subscriber yet, you might want to consider signing up so you’ll have access to free items I have for all my followers.
Do you remember my cozy winter decor wreath with the black and white ribbon? If not, you can see it here. All I did was change out the ribbon with the one above that I bought from Michael’s at 40% off. By not using a specific one for Valentines, I’ll be able to keep this up until spring arrives.
Can I tell you how much I love pink and white tulips! I could have bought roses, but I saw these tulips at Trader Joe’s for $4.99. There’s no way I could resist them; besides, fresh flowers on a cold winter’s day will brighten anyone’s mood!
A package of foam sticker hearts from the dollar store. Who says you have to use them as stickers! I placed a simple fold in them and scattered them around.
Choose a word or phrase and spell it out with scrabble letters.
This sure beats the blah winter!
